Five suspects have been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command in connection with criminal activities ranging from cattle rustling to armed robbery.

The Command also recovered 18 cows, 12 goats, stolen handsets and a locally made pistol from the suspects even as the Command explained the suspects carry out their nefarious activities in Plateau State and neighbouring Benue State.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Ubah Gabriel in a statement issued in Jos on Thursday said, “Acting on a tip off, a combined team of Police operatives attached to Jengre Division, Anti kidnapping Unit (AKU) and Yan Bula Hunters group of Jengre Area on the 17/02/2020 at about 2.30pm, arrested one Halidu Idris ‘m’ of Radi Village Bassa LGA who is a member of a notorious gang of cattle rustlers operating within Jengre and its environs who led the team to their hide out at Radi Village.”

“On sighting the police, the gang members who already laid ambush, opened fire on the operatives. As a result of the gun duel, one of the gang members was shot dead while another of the members identified as Yakubu Soja and five others took to their heels.”

“Exhibit recovered at the scene include, 18 cows, 12 goats, Army green uniform trouser and some seeds suspected to be Indian hemp. Effort is in top gear with a view to arresting the said Yakubu Soja and his cohorts.”

“In another development, a case of armed robbery attack was reported in Benue State Police Command on 08/02/2020 where a Hummer Hiace bus with registration number BKB 180 SA was intercepted by men of the underworld along Otukpo/Taraku road and 262 new handsets were catered away.”

“Immediately information reached the Plateau State Police Command of the armed robbery case, our operative were placed on alert and intelligent team swung into action which led to the arrest of three suspects namely, Oche Idoko, John Abah and Emmanuel Onyibo all ‘m’ of Otukpo, Benue State in a black Toyota Corolla car with registration number LSD 34 DN along Ahmadu Bello Way, Jos on 18/02/2020 at about 5.30pm.”

“During search, seven of the stolen handsets were recovered from the suspects. The suspects who confessed to the commission of the crime will soon be transferred to Benue State Police Command.”

He added that, “On the 14/02/2020 at about 2.09pm while acting on credible information that one Kabiru Jibrin ‘m’ of Sabon Barki, Gindiri District of Mangu LGA trespassed into student’s hostel at College of Education, Gindiri and robbed them of their handsets, a team of Policemen were mobilized to the scene where the suspect was arrested with one locally made pistol. Investigation is in progress.”
