Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state.

By M. Peter – Jos.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication in Plateau state, Mr Dan Manjang, said that citizens who were arrested for violating lockdown order and are being quarantined do not deserve to eat.

Some citizens of the state who are currently held in isolation centers had complained in a audio message circulated on social media that they were not fed.

Reacting to the compliant, Manjang said the said persons do not deserve to eat.

He however said the state government was feeding them twice a day.

Manjang in a telephone chat with our correspondent said, “Those people are not supposed to be given food, they are people that broke the law, government is being magnanimous by giving them food and they are complaining. They are being fed two times in a day, they are supposed to be in prison, they are supposed to be taken to mobile court and be sentenced to prison or pay fine.

“That place is not for jamboree, the State government has tried for people who have transgressed the law. Government has suspended projects and other things, cut down the cost of governance and going towards feeding them and taking care of their welfare. Even the testing that is being done, every test costs N10,000.00. They are people outside who have no food but government is taking care of their responsibility. Some of them, if they go out, they won’t be able to feed once a day.”

Manjang said the people have no right to complain because rather than serving punishment for flouting government directives on lockdown, government was feeding them.

Citizens who sneaked in or out of the state during the lockdown were arrested and are being isolated for 14 days to ascertain their COVID-19 status.

One of those isolated at the Heipang center who did not want to be named had said they are not always given food and when the food is given, it is not given on time despite the fact that some of them are observing the Ramadan fast.
