Some clinical staff at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) in Akwa Ibom state have absconded from their duty post after having contacts with persons who tested positive with Coronavirus.

Barely few days ago, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Emem Bassey, wrote on his timeline on Facebook that there was no case of Coronavirus in the hospital, claiming that those who reported that there was a COVID-19 case in the hospital were “bent on spreading rumour.”

The CMD has since deleted the post, but The Dune has a screenshot of the post as was served up by, Mr. Aniekeme Finbarr, aide on new media to Governor Udom Emmanuel.

The chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of UUTH, Dr. Emmanuel Abudu, in a memo disclosed that the affected clinical staff claimed to have had contact with persons who recently tested positive with Coronavirus.

Management of the hospital has called on all staff who genuinely claim to have had contacts with COVID-19 patients to contact the chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, in writing through their head of departments.

The management of the hospital says it will immediately start an evaluation of based on the level of contact of the concerned staff with the infected persons.
