The Nasarawa State command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested a Kuje correctional centre escapee, Haruna Sunday, who had been into the business of breaking into people’s houses and carting away their belongings in Karu Local Government Area of the state.

The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, made the disclosure while parading 17 other suspected criminals at the command’s headquarters in Lafia on Wednesday.

He said, “On 08/06/2023 at about 2:30pm, a complaint of house breaking and theft was lodged at Masaka Divisional Headquarters in Karu LGA.

“Upon receipt of the report, police detectives attached to Masaka Division launched diligent investigation into the case. Consequently, one Haruna Sunday was arrested in connection to the case.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to have escaped from Kuje prison when it was attacked in 2022. The command will hand him over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further actions.”

DSP Nansel added that some of the suspects committed crimes ranging from kidnapping and armed robbery while others were arrested with dangerous weapons and ammunition.

The PPRO used the opportunity to warn all criminals to leave the state without further delay, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Baba, had directed that the suspects be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for a thorough investigation into their cases, and if found guilty, they would be prosecuted in court.
