A businessman from Ebonyi State, Mr Prince Amachi Ode who was kidnapped on Thursday 30th June in Yenogoa, Bayelsa State has been released by his abductors.

Mr Ode’s abduction was the second reported case of kidnapping within the Bayelsa State capital last week.

Our security sources said policemen who were on the hunt for the kidnappers invaded their camp and rescued the businessman.

There was no official statement from the police command on how the victim was rescued but our security sources said no ransom was paid.

Our correspondent reported that the Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, CP Ben Okolo had ordered a manhunt for the kidnappers on Friday, hours after the kidnap.

An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said Mr Ode who owns a large foam outlet at Amarata, Yenogoa and other locations in the State was kidnapped in front of his house at about 9p.m on Thursday 30th June, while returning home from his shop.

“He was kidnapped between the hours of 8 and 9p.m on Thursday 30th June 2022 at his resident at Erepa road Yenizue-gene, while coming back home with wife and two children.”

“They were attacked in front of his gate and he struggled with the kidnappers for about 15 minutes before he got shot on the leg and was taken away leaving behind his wife and two children.”

“After the kidnappers left, a gun and ATM card was found at the scene of the encounter. The kidnappers were almost caught at the crime scene because the police arrived when they were still dragging the man, but the kidnappers ran on seeing the police, they were chased to the river bank where they eventually escaped using a boat”, the eyewitness who resides close to the crime scene narrated.

The wife and children of the kidnapped victim were not at their residence when our correspondent visited on Saturday morning.
