The Governor of Cross River state, Prof. Ben Ayade, has dished out tough sanctions against residents of the state who go out without wearing nose mask. The sanction includes a N300,000 fine on vehicles carrying passengers who do not wear nose mask.

Ayade has ordered law enforcement agents to arrest and immediately quarantine any persons found going around without nose mask.

The release says the government decided to dish out such tough sanctions because residents flouted the “no mask, no movement” order by Cross River state government.

The release says no person is exempted from the “no mask, no movement” order.

The release reads, “security agents should henceforth impound any vehicle carrying passengers who are not wearing nose masks.”

“Such impounded vehicles, which must be towed to the secretariat of the COVID-19 task force, should only be released after the payment of N300,000 (three hundred thousand naira) fine by the owner of the vehicle.”

“Individuals, no matter their standing in the society, who are found in public without nose masks, should be arrested on the spot and quarantined for 14 days.”

Governor Ayade in the release sacks all staff and appointees working at the Cross River state garment factory, and transfer their services to the state task force on COVID-19.

The Governor has appointed, Mr. Joseph Edet, as the Acting Managing Director of the Cross River state garment factory.

“All appointees of government, with the exception of the expatriates, performing one function or the other at the Cross River State Garment Factory are hereby relieved of such duties with immediate effect. They are hereby co-opted into the COVID-19 task force.”

“Consequently, Mr Joseph Edet (la shakara) is appointed the acting Managing Director of the Cross River State Garment Factory with immediate effect.”
