An aspirant for the Akwa Ibom North West senatorial seat in 2023 and immediate past national legal adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, says those who represented the area in the senate ‘are not better than him’.

Enoidem in an interview published on Wednesday 9th February by a state-based newspaper with links to the state government, was quoted as saying that though he cannot claim to be the right person for the red chamber seat, he has basic qualification for the job.

‘I am not saying that I’m the right person, but I’m only saying that I want to go to the senate and I know that those who went to the senate before me are not better than me. I can say that I have the age qualification, I have the educational qualification, I have the experience. I know what Nigeria needs, I know what Akwa Ibom needs, I know what Ikot Ekpene senatorial district needs’.

The interviewer had asked him why he thinks he is the right person to go to the senate.

Barr. Enoidem in the interview said his erstwhile supporters who are opposed to his senatorial ambition left him out of disappointment because they could not feed from his relationship with the government of the state.

The interviewer had sought his views about ‘dissenting voices’ on his ambition.

He said, ‘…I don’t think anybody who was my core supporter wants to leave me after 22 years, a core supporter means somebody who believes in you. People who are leaving me are those who thought they could feed from my relationship with the system – by taking advantage of my relationship currency. So when that was no more forthcoming, they now looked for other ways to go and make a living.’

The former legal adviser said he will ‘create jobs for youths seeking jobs in (the) senatorial district’, if he is elected senator.

Speaking on Governor Udom Emmanuel’s succession group, Maintain Peace Movement, MPM, which he chairs, Barr. Enoidem said MPM is an instrument for the sensitization of Akwa Ibom people to maintain peace.
