Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC, on Tuesday announced its plans to conduct local government election in the state on August 22nd, 2020.

The chairman of ODIEC, Prof. ‘Yomi Dinakin, disclosed this during an engagement with stakeholders and political parties at a briefing held at the commission’s headquarters in Akure.

Dinakin said out of the 18 political parties registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), only 13 indicated interest in the election and as such those political parties will have their logos on the ballot papers.

While stressing that during the conduct of the election, all prescribed protocols such as washing of hands, wearing of face mask and use of hand sanitizers will be observed, he restated the commitment and the readiness of the commission to conduct the election as scheduled saying the delay before now was as a result of the COVID -19 lockdown.

Dinakin enjoined contestants not to engage in open campaign rally but to make use of both the conventional and social media to canvass for vote just as he stressed the need for them to peacefully conduct themselves during the electoral process.

Also in attendance at the stakeholders’ meeting were representatives of political parties, Non-Governmental Organisations, women groups and as well other key officials of the commission.
