JOS – The lecture series aimed at proffering solutions to proliferation of small arms and ammunition has commenced in the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, with the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo billed to give the inaugural speech as a special guest of honour.

The memorial lecture titled: “Proliferation of small arms and taking control of insecurity in Nigeria, prospect of control and sustainability” is organized in memory of the late Director-General of the Institute, Professor Habu Galadima who died last December.
Explaining the situation, the Acting Director General, Chukwuemeka Udaya mni said it was necessary to honour the deceased DG who was a professor of peace studies and did a lot of work on small arms and ammunition in the Institute.
He noted that the Institute also did a lot of work on small arms and ammunition under his watch hence the need to bring such out with the view to addressing them and bringing out recommendations to government.
He further advocated continued researches that would engender solutions to the myriads of security challenges facing the nation.

His words, “One way to get solutions to these problems is to keep studying and talking about them, the solution to these problems must not only be kinetic but through studying of the problem. It is important we keep talking about them in the academic circle and communicate solutions to the people that will take necessary actions.”
