ABUJA- The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang has urged the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to integrate the artisanal oil refining institutions, otherwise known as “local refineries” or modular refineries into the refining processes.

This, he said would encourage local participation of oil producing communities and all round utilization of local contents.

Senator Enang gave the assertion while delivering a goodwill message at the 4th National Council on Hydrocarbons organised by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources in Abuja.

He admonished National Council on hydrocarbons to take cognizance of the fact that communities that produce oil are bleeding while oil companies are happy simply because they are returning what they are supposed to return as earnings to the Federal purse without giving attention to the oil communities.

“Attention should be refocused on the development of oil communities,” he said.

He acknowledged the effort of the Federal Government in addressing the plight of the communities through the creation of strategic Agencies. He said the agencies were not doing enough and urged the council to think more about the oil producing communities.

The two-day 4th National Council on Hydrocarbons with the theme, Strategies for Enhancing the Global competitiveness of Nigeria’s hydrocarbons Value Chain” drew participants across the country.
