Gunmen have reportedly killed one Famous Belief Wonikiri-Ebi, spokesman of Ijaw Interest Advocate, in Ovwiam in Udu local government area of Delta state.

Wonikiri-Ebi was shot on the neck in the evening of Monday May 18, 2020.

A source said “the assassins trailed Famous Wonikiri-Ebi, to his wife’s shop along Onos School road, Ovwian where he was shot dead. He died in a hospital where he was rushed to for medical attention.

“The gunmen snatched the car of the deceased after they shot him.”

Confirming the incident, the National Coordinator of Ijaw Interest Advocate, Izanzan Camp, Amb. Yerinmene Salaco said, in a telephone chat that “the deceased had been receiving threat calls and text messages from an unknown number.”

“I cannot say exactly if the people who killed him are armed robbers, assassins or gunmen. But whoever has done this should be fished out and prosecuted by the relevant security agencies, especially the Police.

“I called his wife and she said the gunmen shot him in the neck. I called him (Famous) but he didn’t pick his call. I Can’t comprehend this.

“The matter had been reported at the Police Station by the secretary of the group, just as am also confirming that the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue”.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya confirmed the incident.

She said, “Yes, it is confirmed, the man was shot because he resisted them from attacking him. His vehicle was taken away.”
