The chairman of Uruan local government area, Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Henry Udofia, says the council has made grading of roads across the communities of Uruan its priority for the dry season.

Udofia, while flagging off the second phase of the dry season grading project at Ituk Mbang, a community hosting a newly reconstructed general hospital, said all communities would be covered before the rainy season sets in.

Grading of rural roads is an annual dry season project for the Henry Udofia led council. It would be recalled that the council undertook similar grading of rural roads in 2019.

The council chairman said he has supported many subsistent farmers, hence the need to also provide motorable roads to ease the transportation of their farm produce to markets.

“One of the major occupations of my people is farming. As the chairman, I have supported small-scale farmers, and the next reasonable thing is, we should make the roads motorable.”

“This second phase of our dry season road grading is for south-south and southeast areas of Uruan. In the next few days, we must have finished grading all inter – community roads in southern Uruan”, Udofia said.

Recall that a fortnight ago, the council chairman gave N1.1million to micro -scale farmers and traders in Uruan local government.

Roads covered in the second phase of the dry season grading are, Ndon Ebom – Esuk Inwang road, Ituk Mbang – Ikono Ufok road, Nung Ikono Ufok – Nung Ikono Obio – Ikot Akpa Ekang – Ekpene Ibia road, Ibiaku Issiet – Ikot Edung – Ekpene Ibia – Nung Oku road, Use Uruan – Issiet Ekim road, Adadia – Esuk Odu road, Ita street Ekpene Ukim, Nna Enin – Ndung Oku.

Others are Ikot Inyang Esuk – Ekim Enin road, Amadung street – Ifiayong, Bread fruit road, Akpasurua road Idu.

Some of the roads graded in the first phase which covered central Uruan were, Idu – Mbak road, Afang Uquot street, Shell road, Apostolic road, Nsidung street, Idu – Eman road, and Mbiakong – Ikpa road.

Meanwhile, the chairman, Mr. Udofia, said that the third phase of the road grading project would be for Northern Uruan.
