Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, will on Friday, March 12, 2021, launch the Covid-19 vaccination exercise to kick start the phase 1 of the Covid-19 vaccine roll out for the state.

The Chairman of the Delta State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (DSPHCDA), Dr Isioma Okobah, gave the while addressing some officers of the Military and Paramilitary service in Asaba.

Dr Okobah disclosed that the governor, who is also a medical Doctor, will launch the vaccination exercise and be the first to be administered with Covid-19 Vaccines in the state.

She said that the state was expecting about 50,000 (fifty thousand doses) of the Astraveneca brand of the Covid-19 vaccine, estimated as first dose for the front line workers.

The agency Chairman further revealed that the first batch of Astraveneca brand of Covid-19 vaccines, which arrived Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 was expected to be deployed to states and administered to top government functionaries, health workers and security personnel.

In his remark, the Executive Director of the agency, Dr. Jude Winful-Orieke, added that the agency in collaboration with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency and other development partners were organising training of health workers that would carry out the vaccination exercise build their capacity.

Dr. Winful-Orieke allayed the fears and concern expressed by the military personnel, saying that the COVID-19 vaccine aimed at preventing COVID-19 disease by triggering an immune response as all other vaccines.

The interactive session had participants from Nigeria Army, Nigeria Immigration Services, Nigeria Correctional Centre Nigeria Port Authority, Federal Fire Service and Department of Security Services.
