The Delta State Police Command has launched a special operational squad named ‘Safe Delta’ to tackle the rising crime rate and strengthen security patrol throughout the three senatorial districts of the state.

The outgoing commissioner of Police, Adeyinka Adeleke, said ‘Safe Delta’ is part of efforts by the command at strengthening security and prevailing peace in the state.

In a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, noted that members of the squad have trained on their mandate and had been given 21 operational vehicles to immediately begin operations.

Onovwakpoyeya applauded the governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for donating the operational vehicles to the command and stressed that the new formation will meet the security concerns of Deltans.

“In constant response to the security challenges posed by the rapidly changing dynamics of crime and criminality in the society, it has become necessary to continually review and rejig the security architecture of the command.”

“To this end, the Delta state Police command has set up a special operational squad with code name “safe Delta” to strengthen the operational capacity and security patrol throughout the state.”

“The new squad has been given twenty-one (21) operational vehicles donated by the Delta state government deployed to cover the three senatorial districts in the state: Delta North, Delta South, and Delta Central. Each district is further divided into sub sector for effective coverage”, the police image-maker stated.

The statement, while warning members of the special squad that the state police command would not tolerate any unprofessional conduct, urged the members of the public to report complaints against members of the team to the Police control Room number; 08036684974.

It stressed that the command irrevocably committed to protecting lives and property of the people and residents of the state.

Onovwakpoyeya explain further, “In the same vein, the vehicles are numbered according to their area of coverage for the purpose of identification.

“The members of the squad have been trained and properly briefed on what is expected of them. In case of distress call or complaint against any member of the team or the patrol team you can call the Police control Room number 08036684974.”

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Adeyinka Adeleke on behalf of the officers and men of the Delta state police command hereby wishes to acknowledge and appreciate the continuous support of the Delta state government under the able leadership of His Excellency Senator (Dr.) Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, in enhancing the operational capabilities and effectiveness of the command.”
