The Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, AKWAPOLY, has presented nine new courses to the National Board of Technical Education, NBTE, for resource inspection.

At the diploma level, the courses presented were, mechanical engineering technology, mechatronics engineering technology, welding and fabrication technology, library and information science, and national innovative diploma, NID, in business and informatics and para-legal studies.

The polytechnic also presented for resource inspection higher diploma in civil engineering technology, electrical electronics (power and machines instrumentation and control).

Also, 18 existing programmes were re-presented to the NBTE for the 2022 accreditation and re-accreditation exercise.

Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Moses Umobong, said management of the institution is poised to bridge the technology gap within state and its catchment area and become one of the best in Nigeria.

He assured the NBTE team that all recommendations made will be implemented.

Dr Umobong lauded the state government for placing premium in providing quality and innovative education, and demonstrated by Governor Udom Emmanuel through the granting of approvals for requests made towards a smooth and successful 2022 accreditation exercise.

The leader of the NBTE team, Arc. Mgbede Ogoh, noted that there has been a massive investment in infrastructure in the polytechnic, commended the state government for providing the resources for the new proposed courses, accreditation and re-accreditation of existing programmes.

In-house reporters at the polytechnic said the NBTE accreditation team also paid a courtesy call on the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.

The report says Governor Emmanuel lauded the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for its enormous development of tertiary institutions in the country and appealed for more consideration of AKWAPOLY in its project allocation.
