905 widows in Ondo state have registered within two days after a portal created by the wife of the State Governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu, to generate a database of widows in the state was opened.

Mrs Akeredolu said the essence of database is to enhance planning and involvement of widows in government’s policies and programmes.

She stressed that through data uploaded on the website, the government will have access to information about the widows for further processing, research and evaluation.

A total of 905 widows had registered on the website as of Sunday 24th May, two days after the portal was opened.

Meanwhile, Mrs Akeredolu has given assurance that all widows would be captured in the new database regardless of their educational background.

Answering questions on her social media page, Mrs Akeredolu said “FOWOSO members are doing that already, assisting in filling the forms (of illiterate widows) before uploading online. This approach will ensure that no widow is left out. We are on the right track.

She replied another follower saying, “of course FOWOSO full ground. They are collecting data with forms in all the nooks and crannies of the state given that not everybody has access to internet. My office takes care of uploading on the internet.

With this arrangement, no widow is left out. I’m glad you and probably others are beginning to appreciate FOWOSO. It is an amazing and formidable platform which can be deployed to improve on the socioeconomic status of Ondo women.”
