Jos – Small scale businesses in the Southern zone of Plateau State have received a boost as the Senator representing the zone in the National Assembly, Professor Nora Dadu’ut distributed entrepreneurial materials which include water pumps for irrigation farming, grinding machines as well as grants to facilitate take off of various businesses to over 100 members of her constituency.
The empowerment kits given to 175 constituents came after the Senator about two months ago empowered over 150 youths and women with grants worth N3.75 million to start small businesses.
Distributing the items to the beneficiaries in Shendam local government area of the State, Professor Dadu’ut, represented by her Senior Legislative Aide, Maimako Bello said the empowerment programme was part of efforts to fulfil her campaign promises of providing an improved living condition to the people of her constituency.
She emphasized such motivations would “reduce the rate of unemployment and over-dependence among youths and encourage productivity in the communities.”
A beneficiary, Nanko Bintim commended the Senator for the gesture, adding that it would go a long way to reduce poverty in the six local government areas of the district and promised to use the materials to improve her live and those whom she will engage to assist her in her business.
Another constituent, Nichoal Vongsing, from Langtang South local government area stressed the gesture is timely as the programme is a viable initiative with “great potentials to lift the beneficiaries out of unemployment and to be employers of labour,” and charged the beneficiaries not to sell the materials but “please establish your ventures to become self-reliant and employers of labour.”
