The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Aniekan Akpan, has assured aspirants and the public that the party’s primaries will be rancour-free, open and transparent.

Mr. Akpan said the primaries will be held in all the constituencies and all aspirants will have equal opportunity to test their acceptance and popularity.

The party chairman who gave the assurance when he met with leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state ahead of the primaries scheduled to commence on Sunday 22nd May, said “we have appealed to everyone that there will be no rancour.”

“The primary election will be very open and transparent. There will be voting. The national secretariat is coming, and they’re coming with materials including ballot papers.”

“Everybody is going to the field. The delegates are known delegates. And the party guideline is very clear. The guideline says it has to be taken to the various constituencies.”

“We will make arrangements such that whatever is being taken from here will get to each constituency. It will be a contest of brothers and sisters, a family affair.”

He said the PDP in the State is “well-organised” and the leadership was “doing her best” to ensure the party remained the toast of the people of the State.

Mr. Akpan lauded the NUJ for her cooperation with the government of Mr. Udom Emmanuel and the party.

“NUJ has shown that it is working for the development of Akwa Ibom State. I’m impressed with what most of you are doing in the various chapels, reporting the activities of government and the party. I appreciate your cooperation”, Akpan added.

The chairman of NUJ, Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Amos Etuk, said there was need to bring people in the media and all stakeholders in the election process together in order to see how everyone could collaborate by working together to ensure a free and fair election.

Etuk said: “We are all craving for a level playing field in the electoral process. And so there could be no better time for the Union and the party to come together than now, so that we chat a very strong cause that will give Akwa Ibom people strong confidence in your resolutions.”

“We must build a synergy that will make the political process very effective and transparent. And we must also build a stronger unity for Akwa Ibom State.”

“Where we are today is the build up to the Akwa Ibom project. And as critical partners, it is our strong believe that we must work hand in hand towards sustaining this relationship.”

“NUJ has never, and will never engage in publishing sensational stories that will mislead the public because we have highly trained and skilled professionals who are giving good account of themselves in the line of duty”, Comrade Etuk stated.
