The kidnappers of Professor Onje Gye-Wado, a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa state, have demanded for a N70 million ransom before he would be released to his family.

It would be recalled that Onje Gye-Wado, was kidnapped on Friday morning in Gwagi village of Wamba Local Government Area of the state by unknown gunmen.

A source told our correspondent in Lafia on Saturday that the kidnappers have placed a call to his family for the first time since the abduction of the Professor, demanding for the ransom of N70 million.

The source, however, said the family of the former Deputy Governor are appealing with the abductors to accept N2 million instead of the N70 million that was requested because of the unavailability of cash occasioned by the Easter holiday.

“The kidnappers are in touch with the family of Prof and they have demanded for the sum of N70 million, but his family are appealing to the abductors to collect N2 million because they can not raise anything more than that due to the public holidays declared by the federal government for the Easter celebration.”, the source said.
