The ICSAN chairman said participants will have the opportunity to learn new approaches to create long-term stakeholders’ values, both ethical, environmental, social and economic, and therefore called on interested members of the public to register and attend the conference.
He said members of ICSAN in Akwa Ibom will sustain the ideals of the creation of the institute established in 1984 in Nigeria, by promoting corporate governance for the sustainability of corporate organisations in Akwa Ibom State.
Barr. Asibong, who is a Fellow of ICSAN, recalled that the institute was founded in the United Kingdom in response to failure of corporate organisations and noted that similar corporate failures have occurred in Akwa Ibom State with a lot of government owned companies that have gone under.
Barr. Ime Asibong, Chairman of ICSAN, Akwa Ibom State.
“When companies fail, it affects even the running of the government and creates poverty in the system. Corporate failures have a ripple effect on the economy as a whole because when a company fails, people lose their jobs and the government loses the tax that would have been earned from the company being in existence”.
“That is why we have to be deliberate to ensure strict adherence to corporate governance codes and integrity to ensure the sustainability of government legacies towards the industrialization of our state” he said.
The ICSAN Chair, who is also the Company Secretary of the state government owned Ibom Power Company Limited, said that corporate governance caters to the interests of all stakeholders within an organization in line with the mission and vision of the organisation.
He said corporate governance uses a sustainability approach aimed at creating long term stakeholders’ value through the implementation of business strategies that focus on the critical dimensions of doing business.
The conference will have the Chairman of Ibom Air, Pastor Imo-Abasi Jacob and the Special Adviser to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Legal Matters, Mr. Ndem Andem as speakers.
