Deeper Life High School, Uyo Campus has emerged overall winner of American Mathematics Competitions for schools in Akwa Ibom State.
The school won the first four positions in the recently concluded competition organized by the Mathematical Association of America and IAGIFTED for secondary schools in Nigeria.
Students of Deeper Life High school floored other contenders from top ivy-league schools in Akwa Ibom state to clinch 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions.

Two SS1 students; Jewel Udoudo and Angel Patrick took 1st and 2nd positions respectively. A JSS3 student, Esther Ima John emerged 3rd while two other JSS3 students, Chinenye Chikere and Wobom Joshua Igo clinched 4th position.
Reacting to the academic exploit, the Principal of Deeper Life High School, Uyo campus, Mrs. Eunice Ndulue expressed happiness over the success story of the school.
She said that both teaching and non-teaching staffers of the school are poised to do more.
“I am happy for this success. The students were celebrated in the Assembly. This is an encouragement that our efforts in imparting knowledge are not in vain.
“By this success story, we are encouraged to do more for our students to make them become the best in all ramifications of life,” the Principal said.

On how the students of DLHS are fairing in other fields, the principal averred that the school is doing well in science, ICT, Arts among other fields of endeavour.
She revealed that the learning environment is positive, competitive while providing opportunities for every child to excel.
Deeper Life High School Uyo campus is a coeducational school, which started five years ago.
The school, which only admits new students into JSS1, has a 252 (two hundred and fifty-two) student population and 70 staff strength.
Giving insight into the examination, Principal Consultant for IAGIFTED, Professor Adewale Solarin said the idea behind the exam is to prepare Nigerian students to compete favorably with their peers all over the world.
“We have been coordinating AMC exams for nearly a decade now while Kangaroo Sans Frontiers joined three years ago.
“The exam is for all students in private and public schools from primary to secondary.
“Interestingly, this is not a conventional exam we give to our students in school. We go the extra mile to make it a duty that our students should be able to compete favorably with other students all over the world.
“The idea is to challenge the student’s intellect and give them a world view.”
Speaking separately to newsmen, the Head of Mathematics Department, Deeper Life High School, Uyo campus, Mr. Morgan Emem and the Mathematics teacher who drilled the students for the competition, Mr. Peter Ajeh noted that it was an exciting moment coaching students for the competition.

They added that facilities provided by the school, willingness to learn and the capacity of teachers coupled with strong determination to bring out excellence in the students were the reason for the success recorded. They promised to maintain the tempo.
Meanwhile, the American Mathematics Competitions are a series of examinations and curriculum materials that build problem-solving skills and mathematical knowledge in middle and high school students.
