In a bid to check the spread of Coronavirus, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON Delta State chapter has banned the use of public schools in the state for events.
ALGON took the decision at its monthly meeting in Asaba.
According to a press statement signed by the state ALGON chairman, Itiako Ikpokpo, the association directed education secretaries at local education authorities to stop approvals for the use of public primary school fields for any social gatherings.

ALGON expressed satisfaction at the level of preparedness of the Delta State Government in curtailing the spread of the disease.
The statement sates that the meeting resolved that Ethiope West, Bomadi, Burutu, Patani, Warri South West and Warri South should work closely with the Port Health team and the security agencies in ensuring proper screening of persons in and out of those areas.
It ordered the immediate commencement of wide spread sensitisation, in communities across the state on social distancing, personal hygiene, regular hand washing and avoidance of crowded environments.

The meeting urged people particularly in markets, motor parks, churches and all other crowded places to adhere strictly to these new protocols of consistent hand washing and social distancing.
The association warned people to desist from excessive and harmful intake of alcohol, and other unorthodox medications as preventive or curative measures against the virus.
