Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo has called on international community to preserve financing for gas projects in Nigeria and other developing countries ahead of the net-zero emission programme.
Osinbajo who was speaking at meeting with a delegation of the European Union (EU) led by its Executive Vice President, Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis, said there should be a “just transition to net-zero emission”.

He said a just transition to net-zero will imply preserving funding for gas projects such as fossil fuel in Nigeria and other third world countries.
The Vice President said Nigeria is committed to the green energy initiative and has demonstrated this by the recent deployment of five million solar power connections to targeting 25 million households in Nigeria.
“The forthcoming deployment of the 5 million solar power connections, targeting 25 million households across the country under the Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP), reaffirms Nigeria’s commitment to the global green energy initiative.

A just transition to net-zero emissions where gas as a fossil fuel is still supported, especially for those of us in this part of the world, is absolutely important, especially as it will enable us to phase-out more polluting fuels such as coal and diesel.
We advocate and maintain that the international community should preserve financing for gas projects in Nigeria and other developing countries, during the transition to net-zero emission”, Osinbajo said.
