A socio-political and advocacy group, Akwa Ibom Agenda (AKWAGA) has joined other groups in Southern Nigeria to call on the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party to zone the presidency to the South in 2023.
The group, a non-partisan group of young people from diverse professional backgrounds across the state groups made the call on Wednesday through its Convener, Mr Destiny Young.

The group stressed that “it would only be fair in the eyes of all discerning Nigerians for President Buhari’s successor to come from southern region regardless of the party” adding that “since the south has supported the north to keep the gentleman’s agreement of rotational presidency between the north and the south, this is the time for the north to support the south to balance the equation.”
Asked about the objective of the group, Mr. Young said “it is borne out of the desire of Akwa Ibom youths to become a critical mass of emerging stakeholders in the governance structure of Akwa Ibom State, and the membership of the group cuts across all political divides.”
According to him, “opportunity is the intersection between preparation and success. That you have missed an opportunity does not mean it is lost, it simply means someone else has taken it.”
He said the objective of the group is to raise the consciousness of young Akwa Ibom people to prepare themselves for leadership positions and do away with ‘PA to PA syndrome’.
“Our young generation needs to be conscious of the fact that leadership is not given on a platter of gold, but should be sought for. How do you seek for leadership? It is by preparing yourself and asking for it,” he suggested.
Mr Young hinted that the National Executive Council of AKWAGA and Board of Trustees will be inaugurated soon and that the group will have its coordinators in all wards in Akwa Ibom State, adding that the group will commence a leadership training programme for its members soon.
