In a bid to reduce the poverty level among women in the country and make them independent, the Federal Government has doled out the sum of N52 million to 2,600 women in Nasarawa state.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq made the disclosure on Wednesday in Lafia.
The Minister who was represented by the Minister of State, Science and Technology, Barr. Muhammed Abdullahi explained that the money disbursed is strictly for vulnerable women in the state in order for them to be self sufficient.

“Your Excellency, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, Nasarawa state has received a total sum of N3,122,740,000.00 (Three Billion, One Hundred and Twenty-Two Million, Seven Hundred and Fourty Thousand Naira Only) from the Federal Government Conditional Cash Transfer Programme from inception, impacting the lives of poor and vulnerable households.
“The Special Cash Grant for Rural Women Programme being flagged off today was introduced in 2020 by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development as part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s social inclusion and poverty reduction agenda, including the realization of the national aspiration of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years.
“It is designed to provide a one-off grant to some of the poorest most vulnerable women in rural Nigeria.”
“A total of 2,600 beneficiaries are to benefit from the cash grant of 20,000 each to uplift the socio-enonomic status of the rural women in Nasarawa state”, she said.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in the state, Hajiya Halima Jabiru appreciated the Federal Government for the show of love on the people of Nasarawa state.
“It is with warmth and affection that I welcome the Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Umar Farouq to our dear Nasarawa state, the Home of Solid Minerals for this memorable occasion. I am also delighted to welcome our amiable Governor and all distinguished guests and personalities gathered here today for the event.
“Ladies and gentlemen, indeed, we in Nasarawa state consider ourselves lucky to be witnessing yet another show of benevolent love and commitment by the Federal Government of Nigeria towards ameliorating the plights of it’s citizens, particularly those in distress and vulnerable conditions”, she said.

Governor Abdullahi Sule who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the grants while thanking President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts in ensuring that women in Nasarawa state are empowered to make them self sufficient.
One of the beneficiaries, Jamima Bitrus who was very emotional, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the opportunity to be part of the selected women to be empowered, promising to ensure that she would put the money into good use.
