The Nasarawa State Police Command says it has arrested one Saalumun Waako, a member of a criminal gang responsible for the killing of Dr. Terkula Suswam, elder brother to former Governor of Benue state, Senator Gabriel Suswam.

Dr. Terkula Suswam was killed in March this year.

Commissioner of Police in the state, AIG Bola Longe, made the disclosure on Friday in Lafia while parading 61 suspected criminals who had been terrorising residents of the state in the last few months.

He explained that credible information at the disposal of the Police Command indicated that the group of armed robbers and assassins had concluded plans to strike at some locations within Karu LGA and eliminate their victims in the process but were repelled by gallant officers of the command.

“They intended carrying out their atrocious act around Uke, Nyanya Gwandara areas and along Keffi-Abuja express road but the Police Command got informed and raised a formidable team of detectives and operational personnel as a proactive step to prevent them from actualizing their aim and were able to arrest the criminal elements.

The Commissioner said that the suspect, Saalumun Waako, who had been on the wanted list of the Benue Police Command for offences ranging from kidnapping, homicide and armed robbery, has been handed over the Police in Benue state for further investigation.

He commended the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the Police Command led by CSP Anietie Eyoh, for being able to arrest the criminal elements who had been vandalising the railway slippers and said that plans are being made to charge the suspects to court.

“While working on credible intelligence, the Anti-kidnapping unit of the command was able to intercept one citroen J5 Bus, with recently vandalised railway tracks at Agyaragu, Obi LGA. On sighting the police, the occupants of the vehicle abandoned it and escaped to an unknown destination. So we took the vehicle to the State CID and investigation is still ongoing”, he said.

AIG Bola Longe disclosed that apart from the suspects arrested, the Command also recovered some items which include, seven firearms, seven rounds of live ammunition, four vehicles, three laptops, one motorcycle, 17 GSM handsets, among other items recovered.
