Jos – In the face of growing insecurity in the country, Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong at the weekend said his administration is working to tighten security around schools in the state even as he stressed his counterparts in the other States in northern Nigeria are collaborating with the federal government and the Service Chiefs to curb the spate of insecurity in the region.
He said, “so far, we have not had any threats in our schools but what is happening in other states is enough warning. We are taking adequate steps to ensure the safety of our students and academic institutions.”

Lalong, who is also the Chairman, Northern Governors’ Forum noted he was optimistic that the changing of the Service Chiefs will ensure positive results in the fight against insecurity, stating, “Only a fool will continue to do the same thing and expect different results. We said this repeatedly that if we keep doing the same thing, we can’t achieve a different result. Let’s bring in new people and those people have also come in with new ideas.”
Speaking on sundry issues while at a media parley with journalists in Jos, he maintained there is need for school pupils and students to be trained on proper security measures so that they don’t fall easy prey to those who do not mean well for the education sector.
He added that he will complete all ongoing projects initiated by his administration before leaving office in 2023 saying, “If we can complete projects we inherited then we would ensure we complete the ones we started. We want to complete the projects during our tenure to avoid the problem of abandoned projects.”

On the abandoned burnt Jos main market at Terminus, the Governor explained that he has already approached the federal government to assist and ensure that the market is rebuilt and also promised that by this week, work will resume for the completion of construction work at the State Secretariat of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.
He charged citizens in the State to continue to be peaceful in order to attract developmental projects from investors who would want to do serious businesses in areas such as tourism, agriculture and others which the State has comparative advantage.
