Jos – The last is yet to be heard in the leadership tussle rocking the Plateau State House of Assembly as two Members have sued the Plateau State Government and 16 of their colleagues over what they termed as illegal impeachment of the Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abok Ayuba.

The two Members, Gwottson Fom, representing Jos South State Constituency and Tyem Pirfa, representing Langtang North/North State Constituency in an originating summons with suit no PLD/J 585/2021 between Hon. Gwottson D Fom and Hon. Tyem Pirfa Jinfa vs Rt. Hon Nuhu Abok Ayuba and 15 others, the Plaintiffs are asking the Court to nullify the sitting of the House of the 28th October 2021 where Abok was said to have been impeached illegally.

They told the Court that the impeachment was illegal because fewer than two-third of the members sat at 6 am which is considered ‘not parliamentary time,’ and asked the Court to nullify the sitting of the House on 28 October 2021 and stop Hon. Yakubu Sanda from parading himself as the Speaker of the House.

They also alleged that Abok Ayuba was not given a fair hearing contrary to the Rules of the House as he ought to have been served with a Notice of the allegations and a committee set up to investigate him.

According to the plaintiffs, “By the Rules, it is only where the committee indicts the Speaker and 16 members of the House vote to support the report of the committee that the Speaker would be removed. This was not done, we are asking the Court to nullify the impeachment and confirm Hon. Abok Ayuba as the Speaker and restrain Hon Yakubu Sanda from parading himself as the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly.”

The Law firm of Edward Pwajok SAN is handling the suit and it has been assigned to Hon. Justice N. Musa has fixed 31st January 2022 to hear the Originating Summons.
