The Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State has suspended one of her foundation members, Engr J. B. Effiong, over a comment on social media.
Until his suspension, Engr Effiong was the leader of the party in central Uruan, one of the four political blocs in Uruan local government area, hometown of the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mr Aniekan Bassey.
The party in the suspension letter circulated on social media said Engr J.B. Effiong, made comments about the recent unfortunate death of members of the party which is “reasonably interpreted as anti-party.”

The suspension letter was signed by the ward chairman of the PDP, central Uruan ward 2 , Sandy Otobong Edem, and Secretary, Glory Okon Udoh.
The letter states that the suspended stalwart of the party wrote, ‘God is also at work at decimating those oppressors. Check out the recent happenings in the State. Would like to advice (sic) all those in the business of depriving other stakeholders of government patronage to learn from the recent calls to glory. All the powers inherent are all vanity.’

The letter stressed that the contents and meaning of the write-ups by Engr Effiong had caused a stir in the polity particularly that it came from a prominent member of the party.
Engr Effiong has been one time chairman of the governing council of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State has recently lost some prominent members including the State Chairman, Obong Udo Ekpenyong, to death caused by COVID-19.
The party is currently morning the demise of Ekpenyong who was elected the 6th chairman of the party in June 2020.
The PDP on Monday in a release signed by the Deputy Chairman of the party in the State, Mr Lawrence Udosen, declared one week of mourning for the departed state chairman.

The release said during the one week mourning period, the flag of the party at the State secretariat, chapter and ward offices of the party will be flown at half mast.
“The one week period of mourning begins effectively immediately.”
“To reflect this mood, the SWC further directs that all PDP flags in the State Secretariat Complex of our party as well as those at the Chapter and Ward offices must be flown at half mast.”
“For a selfless and forward-thinking leader like the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong, no demonstration of grief will ever be too much”, the release adds.
