Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has inaugurated a 14-member Public Procurement Board with a promise to continue to reduce cost of governance.
The committee has the Governor as chairman; Mr Tolu Fadahunsi, Director-General, Ondo State Bureau of Public Procurement, Mr Emmanuel Igbasan, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, as members.
Other members of the board are, Attorney-General of the State and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Adekola Olawoye; Secretary to the State Government, Temitayo Oluwatuyi; Head of Service, Oluwadare Aragbaiye; Commissioner for Finance, Adewale Akinterinwa; Mr. Samuel Adekola (Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria), and Dele Akinyan, (Chairman The Nigerian Institute of Building).

Others are, Abayomi Michael Ojo, Esq (Nigerian Bar Association); Ologun, David Olorunfunmi, (The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria); Ifeanyi Odili (Coalition of all Civil Society Organisations in Ondo State); Benjamin Igbekele Idowu (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria) and Prof Ayo Arowojolu (Tertiary Institutions).
The governor congratulated members of the board and wished them well in the assigned duties.
Akeredolu said his administration’s commitment to embrace governance reforms, took a bold step by signing into law four different governance reform -focused Bills which include, the Fiscal Responsibility Law; the Public Finance Management Law; Audit Law and the Public Procurement Law.
He emphasised the importance of the Public Procurement Law, saying it would change and revolutionise “the way we have always handled our contract management process.”
The governor noted that the event represented one of the steps towards the domestication of global best practices in public procurement by Ondo State Government.
“Permit me to emphasise that in every clime where global best practices have been institutionalised as a critical element of governance reforms, the society has always been the ultimate beneficiaries.
“In terms of institutionalising governance reforms, I am proud to announce that going by the current rating of the international development partners/bilateral institutions, Ondo State ranks amongst the best three in the whole Federation”, he said.

Akeredolu pointed out that the Ondo State Board of Public Procurement has posted some modest achievements since its establishment which among other things, include the re-engineering of BPP’s personnel, policies and guidelines to engender improved productivity, focus and turnaround time for producing benchmark prices; and through appropriate benchmarks and value for money policies made a potential savings of not less than N460m for government in the past six months as part of our efforts towards reducing the cost of governance.
Responding on behalf of the Board members, Mr Samuel Adekola, appreciated the governor for the opportunity given to them to serve, promised to be committed, loyal, hardworking and truthful to the service.
