The German-based Forum for Innovations in African Universities has announced the appointment of former Director General of the National Orientation Agency,Dr. Mike Omeri, as the new Executive Director for the African Region.

The appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the founder of FIAU, Paschal Anosike and co-founder, Klaus Schneider, and obtained by Journalists in Lafia on Friday.

The letter says “Given your extensive experience and your strong commitment to fostering innovation in higher education, we are confident that you will be an invaluable asset to the team.

“Your responsibilities will include coordinating with stakeholders, managing logistical arrangements, and benefit our vision and mission to create a change in higher education sector across the continent.”

Dr. Omeri brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of leadership to FIAU. As the former Director General of the National Orientation Agency, he was able to demonstrate exceptional capability in driving various initiatives and fostering public awareness and national consciousness across diverse sectors.

Dr. Omeri is expected to spearhead FIAU’s efforts to promote and implement groundbreaking educational programmes and policies that would enhance the quality and accessibility of higher education across the continent.

In his reaction, Dr. Mike Omeri expressed his enthusiasm about joining FIAU, saying, “I am highly honoured to take on this new role and look forward to collaborating with universities, policymakers, and stakeholders across Africa.

The Forum for Innovations in African Universities is a leading organization dedicated to fostering innovation and excellence in higher education across Africa.

Through collaborative partnerships, research, and strategic initiatives, FIAU aims to transform the educational landscape, enhance institutional capacities, and promote sustainable development.

Meanwhile, the forums 4th annual global conference for Innovations in African Universities will take place in Abuja, Nigeria, on July 10, 2024 at the Nigeria Airforce Conference Centre, Kado.

Dr. Omeri explained that the 2024 edition has been expanded to include tertiary institutions like the Colleges of Education and the Polytechnics.

He said this became necessary in order to promote the active talents of those institutions to the world, especially since this year’s edition is expected to attract foreign higher institutions, industry, with opportunity for research and development grants as well as exhibition of innovations from these institutions.

He added that there was already a heavy demand for the limited spaces available for the exhibition which would proceed with the award presentation to be held in the evening of the said date.
