The 2019 NUJ Press Week with the theme, “Strengthening peace and unity in Akwa Ibom State: The role of journalists”, began on Sunday 8th December, with a thanksgiving at the Grace Family, IBB
avenue, Uyo.
Speaking at the service, the Chairman of the state council of NUJ, Comrade Amos Etuk, said given challenges of journalism, it was imperative for journalists in Akwa Ibom to thank God for His grace.
He mentioned that it was in acknowledgement of the goodness of God the the union decided to commence activities of the 2019 press week with a thanksgiving.
The officiating Priest of Grace Family, Reverend Patrick Edet, who preached on the topic, ‘Go Back to Bethel’ charged the gentlemen of the press on the importance of gratitude and Thanksgiving.
Reading from Genesis 28 : 10 – 22, he stressed that a certain place of insignificance that one finds himself today may be one’s Bethel later in life.
He pointed out that a place of shame and humiliation may become a place great uplift in life.
Reverend Edet noted that thanksgiving invopved making painful sacrifices as show of appreciation to God for His deeds.
Activities for the 2019 Press Week celebration continue with a seminar on Monday 9th December; at the NUJ press Centre, Information Drive, Uyo.
