Nasarawa State Fire Service has said that it has recorded 99 fire incidents in the state from January to June 2020.

Chief Fire Officer, Dalhatu Dogara made this known while speaking with newsmen on Wednesday in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.

According to him, “a total of 104 distress calls were recorded, out of which 99 were fire operations while four were for rescue operations with one recorded as a false call”.

He noted that throughout the first half of the year, seven lives were lost while two lives were saved.

Dogara attributed the fire incidents to carelessness, misuse of electrical equipment, cooking gas among others.

He explained that most of the fire incidents occurred in the Lafia local government area while appealing to residents to always be fire conscious and avoid overloading of electrical sockets.

Dogara used the opportunity to appreciate the governor of the state, Engr. Abdullahi Sule for his efforts so far in repositioning the state fire service for better service delivery.

He appealed for more support in terms of fire stations in various local government areas in the state where fire stations are unavailable.
