Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress from across the 13 Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State, have demanded for the arrest of a former Chairman of Karu LGA of the state, Samuel Akala, for allegedly insulting Governor Abdullahi Sule and engaging in anti-party activities.
The party stalwarts who are under the aegis of APC Stakeholders Forum said Akala’s comments against the Governor and the party since the State Assembly crisis began, was capable of causing a religious crisis in the state, hence the need for his immediate arrest.
The former Council Chairman who is a card-carrying member of the APC, was said to have held a press briefing in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where he gave a negative narration about Governor Sule, the leaders of the state APC and the Chief Judge of the state as regards the ongoing crisis in the House of Assembly which occurred June 6, 2023, during the election of a Speaker for the 7th Assembly.
The election which was between two contenders and held at different locations in Lafia, the state capital, divided the 24 members-elect of the assembly. The immediate past Speaker, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi who had the support of the Governor and the party, was sworn-in by the Clark of the assembly while Hon. Daniel Ogazi, was sworn-in by a staff of the assembly.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lafia on Thursday, Chairman of the APC Stakeholders Forum in the state, Dr. Kassim Muhammad-Kassim, said Akala’s group named ‘Concerned APC Stakeholders’ was not recognised by both the party and the state government, describing them as a faceless group with negative intentions for residents of the state.
Dr. Kassim who is a former member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, further appealed to the remaining 10 members-elect who are yet to be inaugurated, to do so in the interest of their constituents who voted them into office to effect a positive change in their respective communities.
