Jos – Efforts to boost the agricultural sector in Plateau State have received a boost as the State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang engages experts at the World Food Prize Foundation event held in the United States of America.
Mutfwang who joined other leaders at the event held in Des Moines, Iowa, USA, intimated to the experts his administration’s commitment to drive the State’s economy through a robust agricultural revolution and ensure food security.
A statement by the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere explained that “The gathering served as a platform to explore sustainable solutions to food security challenges on a global scale, with a special focus on Africa.”
Bere added that the Governor served as a Special Guest of Honour at the event which he renewed his administration’s unwavering commitment to revitalizing Plateau State’s economy by transforming its agricultural value chain.
His words, “He announced plans for an ambitious agricultural programme aimed at elevating food production, creating jobs, and promoting sustainable economic growth for the state.
“Governor Mutfwang emphasized his administration’s political will to implement impactful initiatives designed to uplift the well-being of Plateau citizens and outlined ongoing efforts to foster peace, enhance security, and establish a business-friendly environment to attract both local and international investors.”

He further stated that the President of the African Development Bank, AfDB, Akinwunmi Adesina spoke on Africa’s agricultural potential, stressed the critical need for Africa to shift from food security to food sovereignty, and explained the Bank’s Special Agro-Processing Zones project, saying “it is a continental initiative that includes Plateau State as a key participant and the aim is to streamline agro value chains and boost food production efficiency.”
Other leaders who attended the event included: President Samia Hassan of Tanzania, Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, President of the World Food Prize Foundation, Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State, and the 2023 Nobel Laureate Heidi Kühn, among others.
