The Conference of Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN) on Sunday 5th November inducted 79 people into the Knighthood and Orders of John and Charles Wesley.

Mr Okon Okon, Executive Chairman of AKIRS; Major General Edet; Professor Akanimo Essiet, Professor Okitefre Oboho, Professor Essiet Unanaowo; Barr Mfon Ben, made the list of the recipients.

Mr Okon was conferred with the award of Knight of John Wesley and his wife, Barr Uwem Okon, Lady of the Knight of John Wesley.

The conferment was officiated by the Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr Oliver Ali Aba, at the Immanuel Methodist Cathedral, Uyo.

John Wesley, an Evangelist and disciple-maker who lived between 1703 – 1791, was a reputable leader of a christian revival movement known as Methodism within the Church of England while his brother Charles Wesley ministered in hymns. In fact, Charles Wesley is reputed as a foremost hymn writer of all times.

John Wesley led transformational evangelism, formed holiness club on campus, and shared the word of God to others, emphasising righteousness, holiness, compassion, and gratitude for God’s divine grace

The Knight of John Wesley (KJW) title is conferred on people found worthy in character and Christian discipline.

According to the Conference of the MCN, KJW is conferred on people who have used their God-given talents, time, and resources to promote God’s work both in their communities and in the church . It is a call into active Christian evangelism.

For Sir Okon and his dear wife, Lady (Barr) Uwem Okon, it was a double celebration as exactly 28 years ago, precisely Saturday, November 4, 1995, the then Mr Okon Okon and Barr (Miss) Uwem Udomesiet wedded at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Udo Umana street, Uyo. This presented an interesting coincidence, nay, God’s incidence.

The couple, thanked God for His mercies and faithfulness and the Methodist Church for the honour which they accepted because it is a call to higher level of service in the body of Christ their Saviour.
