A medical practitioner in Delta State has raised concern over the unavailability of standard mortuaries in Warri, Uvwie and Warri South local government areas.

There are no standard public or private mortuaries in the three local government areas in Delta state, the media practitioner noted.

Chief Medical Officer of Bryant Hospital, Dr Bright Djeba, has therefore emphasised the need for proper handling of corpses in the morgue section of government hospital.

Djeba made the call at the commissioning of “Save Haven Mortuary Service “, a subsidiary of Bryant Hospital located in Warri, saying that the unavailability of “a standard government or private morgue in the area prompted the establishment of the service.”

“Save heaven mortuary services is a place established for humanitarian service to Deltan that are living within Warri and its environ and is well equipped with refrigerator and other state-of-the-art equipments for standard morgues. So, it’s not a profit- oriented venture.”

“When I lost one of my senior uncles, he died at 95. The only mortuary we had here in this town was Veenell and when we went there, it was filled up. No place to keep him and I cannot afford to keep him just in a canopy and under the canopy, there were several dead bodies there which is not good. I said No!!! I have to do something.”

“That was what prompted me to build this place and we built it to help humanity. I found out that, our people here don’t respect the dead. The way they are being kept in some government morgue including private hospitals morgue is unfit. We should give respect to the dead.”
