Following the murder of Mr. Philip Shekwo, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Nasarawa state who the state government has held an emergency security meeting.
The meeting which was chaired by Governor Abdullahi Sule and held at the Government House, Lafia on Monday was to ensure that those who were involved in the act are made to face the law and to avoid a repeat of such incident in the state.
At the meeting, Governor Abdullahi Sule blamed the rise in criminal activities in the state to inadequate rapid response by security agents.
The Governor said he is pained by the gruesome murder of the state APC chairman, Mr. Phillip Shekwo by assassins at his resident on Saturday.
“Our major problem in Nasarawa state is the lack of rapid response. We must put mechanism in place to ensure rapid response, and by doing that we will be able to control the situation”.
“If the APC chairman with some level of security attachment could be killed, how about the ordinary citizens who do not have such security attachment, it calls for worry”, Sule regretted.

Govenor Sule however lamented that 24 hours before the murder of the APC chairman at the same area, a young man was shot in his car by unknown gunmen.
Briefing journalists after the security council meeting, the commissioner of police, Mr. Bola Longe said more patrol vans would be provided to ensure rapid response in the state.

Longe assured that the force would go any length to bring the perpetrators to book, “though the force has not made any arrest but a high powered investigation is currently ongoing”.
Fish out killers of Shekwo – Nasarawa Assembly tells security agencies
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has charged the state government and security agencies to do everything within their powers to ensure that justice is served to those who assassinated the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Philip Shekwo.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe gave the charge after Hon Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion under the matters of public interest on the death of Shekwo during the House proceedings in Lafia on Monday.

“The resolution of this House is to the effect that members advised His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule to direct the security agents to work hard to unravel the perpetrators of this act to face justice.
“Security agents are to intensify efforts to protect lives and property of the citizens. Government should provide adequate support to the security agents to effectively protect lives and property. We have lost a leader in the state and may his soul rest in perfect peace,” the speaker said.
The speaker directed the clerk to the House to produce a clean copy of the House resolution to the governor for his further necessary action.
Shortly after the sitting, the Speaker led other members of the Assembly to pay a condolence visit to the deceased family, he commiserated with them and assured them that the Assembly will continue to stand by them at all times.
It would be recalled that on Saturday, the APC Chairman, Mr. Philip Shekwo was reportedly abducted from his residence in Lafia and found dead on Sunday in a bush not far from his house.
