The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Agboola Ajayi, on Thursday took on Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for using uncouth language on him during an interview with a national television station.

Also, Ajayi said he is well qualified for the position of governor contrary to the position of Governor Akeredolu having served as a ward chairman, supervisory councillor, elected chairman of a local government, house of representative and deputy governor.

Ajayi said Akeredolu’s position that he is unfit for the office of Governor is a sad reflection of Akeredolu’s character as he lacks respect for the citizens of the state including its traditional rulers.

Akeredolu had on the television programme said his deputy who is the candidate of Zenith Labour Party(ZLP) was not fit and proper to govern the state.

But Ajayi in the statement by his Media Adviser, Mr Allen Sowore, said recent utterances of the governor have exposed his true character as someone suffering from verbal diarrhea.

Pointedly, Ajayi said the use of
profane and foul language on him by Governor Akeredolu showed his lack for decency and respect for anyone outside his immediate family.

The Deputy Governor in the statement said “Mr Governor’s reckless gaffe is a continuation of his fruitless and sterile efforts to demean the constitutionally-established office of the Deputy Governor and his person.

On his qualification for the office of the governor, Ajayi said he is the most experienced candidate for the position of the governor of the state.

According to him, he worked tirelessly from the grassroots up the political ladder to attain the present position unlike others who have only served as commissioners within the executive arm without any cognate experience at the grassroots or legislative arms of government.

As a ward Chairman in the then SDP, a former supervisor, former caretaker chairman of Ese Odo local government, elected Executive chairman of the same local government, and later elected member of the National Assembly where he was appointed Chairman House Committee on NDDC, before becoming an elected Deputy Governor of Ondo state, he is the most experienced person in the governorship race, Ajayi said.

The statement reads further: “He is able, capable and deserving of the position of governor of Ondo State, a position he hopes to attain as the governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The Deputy Governor said the utterance of Governor Akeredolu was the continuation of disrespect and unrelenting verbal assault on his person, current office and his status as the governorship candidate.

The Deputy Governor said “Akeredolu’s actions, are a direct result of the signal of rejection he is already receiving for his style of nepotic, parochial and clannish government. The people are tired of the fact that he is running Ondo State as his family’s private estate.”

“Governor Akeredolu is notorious for having a loose tongue, fueled most times by Dutch courage. His verbal attacks on notable leaders, particularly whenever they disagree with his clannish and myopic world view is well established.

“Therefore it is in his character to hurl verbal grenades which are usually undignifying of his age, person, professional calling and the political office he currently occupies.
