Jos – Yam tubers and other valuables worth millions of naira were on Sunday night destroyed following a fire incident that destroyed the popular Namu Central Yam Market in Qua’an Pan Local government Area, of Plateau state.

A resident of the community, Kabiri Buba whose goods were also destroyed said many farmers and traders are counting their losses as over 100 victims were affected by the incident whose cause could not be ascertained at the time of this report and called on government at all levels to come to the aid of the farmers and traders.

However, Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial zone, Professor Nora Dadu’ut has commiserated with the entire community especially victims of the fire incident saying she is saddened by the incident.

She said, “I commiserate with the entire people of Namu over this sad incident. Since I heard of this incident, I have not been my usual self, I feel very sad. I pray to God to revive the spirit of those affected by this incident. May God give them the grace to accept the loss and continue the struggle.”

She called on government and other charitable Nigerians to offer support for the victims to aid their quick recovery from the tragedy.
