In a bid to ensure that students of the institution get adequate knowledge in their field of study, an anatomage machine worth N30 million has been bought by the Federal University, Lafia for the purpose of alternate practicals with physical dead bodies.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Muhammad Sanusi-Liman made the disclosure on Thursday to newsmen while unveiling the machine to staff of the institution.
“The procurement of the anatomage machine was necessitated by the determination of the management of the institution to make their medical school one of the best in the country. The machine which was purchased over N30 million was from the internally generated revenue of the university”, he said.

He commended the Nasarawa State Government for donating a newly built hospital to the university preparatory to the approval of third teaching hospital.
Professor Sanusi-Liman expressed hope that with the facilities and man power in the medical college of the university, the federal government would approve a teaching hospital for the institution.

On his part, Provost of the Medical College of the University, Professor Ahmed Yakubu-Ashuku, said the importance of the anatomage to the students and staff of anatomy department are numerous.

The Provost of the Medical College explained that the machine was aimed at making the teaching of anatomy easy.
“Unlike the physical death bodies, this machine allows for repeat of dissection of the human body and its parts and even studying its functions in a real life situation.

Earlier, Dr Abdulmumuni Lawal, Head of Anatomy Department commended the management of the institution for procuring the machine for their practicals.
Dr Lawal who is also the acting Dean of the College, said the images programmed in the machine were that of real humans.
He however, explained that the machine has a lot of function capable of improving the quality of medical personal to be produce by the department.
The Acting Dean therefore, said the department was still training its staff on how to take full advantage of the machine for the benefit of its students.
