In a bid to ensure food security and to cushion the effect of the hardship currently ravaging many states in the country, a Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Delta State, Chief Kenneth Ekitu Agbomah has empowered no fewer than 100 farmers in Ebu community with herbicides.

Our correspondent reports that Agbomah who hails from Ebu in Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state, was a top House of Assembly aspirant under the platform of the PDP during the 2023 general election.

Speaking on Friday in Ebu during the distribution of the herbicides which includes Sunphosate 360 SL for weeds eradication, Chief Agbomah explained that the gesture was aimed at boosting the capacities of the farmers to enable them cultivate enough food for the residents of the community during the rainy season.

While narrating that the empowerment programme was initiated by the Kenneth Ekitu Agbomah Support Organization, the PDP Chieftain explained that the Sunphosate herbicide is a foliar-acting, systemic, non-selective, and pre-crop emergency herbicide for the control of annual weeds, perennial grasses, broadleaf weeds, aquatic weeds, and shrubs.

Chief Agbomah who is the founder of KEASO added that the herbicide is an efficient crop protection product with excellent weed control, reliability, and favorable environmental attributes.

He said, “I am delighted to be at this distribution exercise of herbicides to 100 farmers in Ebu community which is being sponsored by the Kenneth Ekitu Agbomah Support Organization.

“The beneficiaries were carefully selected from all the clans in the community with a view to ensuring that the residents have enough food to eat even during the dry season.

“It has been observed that Herbicides play an important role in the way food is grown and prepared these days. Weeds are capable of destroying crops and decreasing the quality of the food people consume.

“As a way to control this problem, we decided to purchase the Sunphosate 360 SL herbicide to ensure that our farmers get bountiful yields during this year’s rainy season.

“This intervention is therefore, in furtherance of our commitment to strengthening the capacities of our farmers as well as improving their livelihoods on a sustainable basis.”

He further called on the beneficiaries to utilize the herbicides to achieve the best results, while assuring of KEASO’s commitment to continue to give the needed support to the farmers in Ebu community to ensure food sufficiency.

“On behalf of the Kenneth Ekitu Agbomah Support Organization, I pledge that we will continue to support our farmers in order to tackle the hardship that is currently being felt across the nation, and to ensure food sufficiency in Ebu community,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of the others, Frank Ojore, thanked KEASO for supporting them with the herbicides, and promised to use the agro chemicals judiciously.
