The Founder, Development Initiative for Community Impact, Dr Rachael Missan-Ruppy has said there is an “increase in leukaemia” in Ubeji and Jeddo Communities in a Warri South and Okpe Local Government Areas of Delta State.
She said this was as a result of the exploration activities by the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, WRPC.
Dr Missan-Ruppy spoke at a one day “Community-CSOs Engagement” organised by the Environmental Rights Action,ERA/ Friends of the Earth Nigeria in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

“I can’t stay in Ubeji and Jeddo because of the acid rain. You see it in your cars or your houses, even with all the surveillances”.
She spoke on the impact of divestment on communities also said there is increase in human trafficking, sexual and forced marriages as a result of the exploration activities of the IOCs in the Niger Delta region.
Dr Missan-Ruppy, a woman leader urged the women to always speak with one voice with a view to holding the Oil Companies and Governments accountable as it regards the pollution of their environment.
