Stakeholders from Jos North briefing journalists ahead of October 9, local government election.

Jos – Stakeholders from Jos North said they have uncovered plot by some people to cause trouble in the area ahead of the October 9, 2021 local council election.

They advised those bent on fomenting trouble to desist as they will be named and arrested in the event that the process is truncated and the fragile peace breached.

The stakeholders under the auspice of Association of ethnic nationalities and communities; Anaguta, Afizere, Berom, Hausa, Irigwe, Igbo, Yoruba, Central and Southern zones in Jos North called on law abiding citizens to be calm and stay focused the election day approaches.

Addressing journalists in Jos on Monday, the leader, Agwom Atang, urged all who will vote on that day to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner as the local government area is in dire need of peace.

“As the election is around the corner, it is our sincere call to all citizens in Jos North and especially the youths to come all out and conduct themselves peacefully as we cast our votes… Jos North needs peace more that any other place for our continued development.”

“We seize this opportunity to call on all citizens to remain calm and well-focused as we await the historic 9th October, 2021 the day to usher in a new era in the political history and development of Jos North local government area.

“We advice anyone who is thinking of doing any act that will truncate the peace and harmony in Jos and the State at large to think twice because we know them and if pushed to the wall, we will name them one by one to the security agencies for appropriate action.”

“Most of those trouble makers are not even from Jos but they are using the few individuals to achieve their evil and devilish act. Our communities are fully committed to peace in Jos North and we resolve never to leave any stone unturned to achieve this…”

They called on security agencies in the State to “redouble effort at ensuring any trouble is nipped in the bud, as not all are happy with the peace and harmony enjoyed in Jos North.”

It would be recalled that issues of insecurity have hampered the conduct of local government election in Jos North for some years, attempt to conduct election in that council in November, 2018 saw violence erupting in the city and since then the leadership of the Council has been on appointment.
