The Federal High Court, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has ordered Delta Afrik Engineering Ltd to pay N14.8billion to Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service. This is in respect of its backlog of unremitted tax liabilities for 2007 to 2016.

In 2017, Delta Afrik Engineering Limited had instituted an action at the Tax Appeal Tribunal, South South Zone, Benin City, Edo State against AKIRS concerning its tax liability arising from tax audit and investigation by AKIRS for the period 2007 to 2016 in which judgment was delivered against AKIRS.

Being dissatisfied with the judgment of the Tax Appeal Tribunal, AKIRS appealed against same to the Federal High Court, Uyo. On 7th October, 2022, the Federal High Court set aside the Judgment of the Tax Appeal Tribunal and ordered Delta Afrik Engineering Ltd to pay the full tax liability in the sum of N14.8billion to AKIRS having regards to the satisfactory evidence of tax default and refusal on the part of Delta Afrik Engr Ltd. to furnish the Board with required documents to substantiate its purported objection.
