AKWA IBOM – Ika local government area in Akwa Ibom has passed a bye-law banning the sales of land by indigenes in the area to corporate bodies.
A bye-law enacted by the local government legislature prohibits village heads or individuals from negotiating or entering into agreement for the sale of land to corporate bodies without the consent and authorisation of the council chairman.
Ika local government is a border local government with Ukwa East in Abia state.
Straight news, reports that the announcement of assent to the law by the council chairman, Mr. Anthony Udousung, was contained in a letter signed by the clerk of the house, Barr. Ubong Udoh.
Udoh who signed the letter for the house leader, Mr. Utibe Cletus, said infringement of the law will lead to outright revocation of the land agreement.
