Jos – The Chairman of Bassa Local Government Council, Plateau State, Engr. Stephen Ingmala has appreciated the Nigerian College of Accountancy, Kwall, for carrying out credible Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the benefits of its host community and its environs and urged other organisations in the local government area to emulate such gesture of giving back to the society.

The Chairman spoke shortly after the College commissioned and handed over
a Primary Healthcare Centre at Ooridam, Kwall District, Irigwe Chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area built and equipped by the College which is a training arm of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN.

Engr. Ingmala lamented the situation where the 3 Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, domiciled at the Rukuba community of the local government has not carried out any visible CSR to touch the lives of the people in the host community and hoped that the gesture from the College would be emulated by the Army.

The said Health Centre sited in the remote area, consists of Male and Female Wards with four beds in each ward, two Consulting Rooms, Maternity Room, Dispensary, Laboratory and a two-bedroom apartment staff quarters. Basic medical equipment and basic drugs were also procured and delivered to the facility to cater to the health needs of about 4,000 people.

Speaking at Kwall, the Chairman who could not hide his joy, said, “I am impressed with the quality of work done. I also appreciate the goodwill that the College of Accountancy has shown by embarking on this project as its Corporate Social Responsibility. We never had it this good because of all the institutions that we have in Bassa Local Government, none has ever looked and considered the communities that host them for one good thing that would benefit and enhance their livelihoods.

“The College of Accountancy has done so much more than the military institution that has been here many years before the College came. The 3rd Armoured Division has not deemed it fit to do a single project as its Corporate Social Responsibility since its inception almost 50 years ago. We highly appreciate the College for spending a huge amount of money on this project for our communities to enjoy. We sincerely thank the DG and his management team for initiating this laudable project and I hope this would challenge the 3rd Armoured Division to see the need to reach out and touch the lives of its host communities positively too.”

Commenting on the security situation in Bassa, the Council boss who came into office a few weeks ago, said he was optimistic that things would be better as new strategies are being deployed to ensure peace and security especially as the local administration is working to ensure constant interaction with members of various communities to see the need for peaceful coexistence.

He charged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious persons within their domain to security agents, and commended the efforts of the DPOs of Bassa and Jengre for working in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure lasting peace in the area.

Earlier, the Director-General of the College, Dr. Kayode Fasua stated that all the project was largely funded via crowdfunding where the College engaged staff, students, and other friends by making them see the benefits associated with what the College was doing, stressing, “The benefits of CSR speak volumes about how important it is and why we should make an effort to adopt it as part of our obligation to humanity.”
