The Akwa Ibom State Government has begun the process to upgrade facilities at her 30 years old College of Education in Afaha Nsit, in a bid to give it a Degree-awarding status.
An inter-ministerial State Executive Committee visited the College on a needs assessment tour on Tuesday.
The Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Nsit Ibom local government area, founded in January 1991, currently awards National Certificate on Education, NCE.

Upgrading the College of Education, Afaha Nsit, to a Degree-awarding status was one of the recommendations made in the State’s 10 years Education roadmap submitted recently to Governor Udom Emmanuel by the Technical Committee on Education, chaired by Prof. Hilary Inyang.
The inter-ministerial State Executive Committee led by Chief of Staff to the Governor, Akparawa Ephraim Inyangeyen, has assured management of the College of government’s readiness to expedite the upgrade.

Inyangeyen was accompanied during the needs assessment tour by the Commissioner for Education for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, Commissioner for Environment, Sir Charles Udoh, and Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Ini Ememobong.
He announced that the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has directed the immediate construction of internal roads and commencement of erosion-control project in the College.
Inyangeyen said the inter-ministerial State Executive Committee has been mandated to work with the management of the institution to put in place all the things needed to kickstart accreditation of programmes for the award of Degrees by the College.

The Provost of the College, Dr. Daniel Udo, listed major needs of the school to include, construction of internal roads, control of erosion menace in the College as well as construction of new lecture theatres and laboratories.
He appealed to the State Government to quickly address deficit in personnel in the College.
Dr. Udo in company of the Registrar, members of Governing Council and management staff led the committee on a tour of facilities in the school during the visit.
