The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom State says the number of members of the party in the state is now more than 700,000.
Chairman of the caretaker committee of the party, Dr. Ita Udosen disclosed this while briefing journalists in Uyo after the state working committee meeting.
Udosen said the party in Akwa Ibom state witnessed an implosion in membership during the just concluded membership revalidation and registration.

While thanking the party executives and members for the peaceful conduction of the membership registration/ revalidation, Udosen said ‘over 700,000 members were captured in the state during the exercise’.
The party caretaker chairman said the state working committee has frowned at a recent meeting convened by a stakeholder of the party, H.E Sam Ewang, where Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, was pronounced leader of the party.
He said the meeting was illegal and resolutions made at the meeting are null and void.
‘After consultations with our legal department, we want to respectfully inform him (Ewang) that he did not have such powers and he doesn’t have such powers to do that.’
‘I have to tell you that at national level in APC, there is no BoT. It has never been appointed, no caucus has been inaugurated and at the state level, we have not inaugurated that. This is because, whatever we do we take the offshoot from the National Chairman.’

‘If I may refer you to the party’s constitution, article 25 page 89 of October 2014 as amended, you will discover that the power to convene any party meeting call it APC stakeholders’ meeting, is solely rest on the state chairman of the party, the State Working Committee and the State Executive Council’.
Dr. Udosen however stressed that there were divisions in party, saying that ‘the discordant tunes you hear in the party are mere misunderstanding, they would be resolved soon’.
