Four rice farmers of Nasarawa State origin have lost their lives to a boat mishap that occurred in the Awe Local Government Area of the state.
Our correspondent gathered that the boat which was conveying farmers from Ubbe District in the Nasarawa Eggon LGA, had the tragic accident while crossing a river at Hunki village of Awe LGA on Monday night.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been transported back to the village for proper identification by their families.
They were identified as Alkali Congo, Shedrack Dauda, Mashack Dauda, and Akolo Moses.
Confirming the incident to our correspondent in Lafia on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the driver of the boat was still missing.

He said, “Confirmed. It happened yesterday; the farmers were returning from the farm, and the boat capsized.
“But with the support of local divers, four corpses were recovered, and one person was rescued.
“The person driving the boat is yet to be found and efforts are ongoing to find him.
“The Acting Commissioner of Police sympathized with the families of the deceased and prayed to God to console them in a special way.”
It would be recalled that twelve residents recently lost their lives to a boat accident at the Kogi Kungra Kamfani River in Arikiya community of Lafia LGA.
